It all started when my parents named me. They considered a popular name like Sue but instead, they choose Janine. That's when the trouble began. My name was more than just unique, it was rarely heard of at the time. Not a problem until I got a little older and realized that I would never find a license plate for my bike that said "JANINE", no matter how many stores we went to. There were no stickers, no pencils, no erasers, nothing that said "JANINE". The best that anyone could come up with was "JAN". My mom would quickly whip out her black marker and add "INE" on the end, hoping I wouldn't notice. I always noticed! I was on a never ending quest to find my name printed on something, anything! It just never happened. That's when my relatives started to get creative. Armed with her trusty marker, my Mom would personalize just about anything that my name would fit on. My Aunt Sue, (the craftiest person I know) would embroider my name on my shirt whenever I came to visit. My Grandmother & Godmother always came through with engraved gifts.
